5 must see in Florence
February 18, 2009
… more than 5, but here I just want to give you an idea about our magnificent city, even if your stay is short.
The location of Mr My Resort is very convenient and full of important historical gems at a walking distance.
First of all, the David by Michelangelo, in the Academy Gallery, right 5 minutes walk from our bed and breakfast. If you want to save time and avoid long lines in the street, we offer a free reservation service for the main florentine museums, such as the Uffizi, with its Venus by Botticelli.
After the Academy, you can easily reach the Duomo and the Baptistery; here you can visit the top of the dome with its gorgeus view of Florence city and the tuscan hills (after 463 steps…).
In case you have to wait too long for the dome, you can visit the Museum of the Cathedral Works (Museo dell’Opera del Duomo), with sculptures by Michelangelo and Donatello.
Don’t miss the Old Bridge! I always forget I’m walking on seven-hundred yrs old stones…
Last thing: bistecca.
The tuscan tradition wants you ask for a 1 kilo steak per person…
Ok, forget it and try to ask just for a half-a-kilo steak for 2, I’m quiet sure you will be hungry after a day of tours, museums, shopping, and with a good glass of red Chianti wine you will back to the B&B and sleep like babies…
Restaurants in Florence
February 18, 2009
Giuseppe and I love to cook but sometimes, after a long and exhausting day we love to treat us for a dinner out to taste good food and drink a good glass of wine. I like informal trattorias where a pair of jeans are fine, but sometimes I like to wear a nice dress, pretty shoes, and eat in a more elegant and cozy place.
In this case my choice is only one: the restaurant Alle Murate inside the old palace owned in the Renaissance period by the Lawyers and Notaries Art, in Via del Proconsolo, just behind the Cathedral. It’s within a walking distance from the Duomo and the old building with frescoes on the walls and the drawing of the real face of Dante Alighieri match perfectly with the modern eating room.
The choice of the dishes is great and I don’t really know what I can suggest: Giovanna is the chef (note that all the staff is composed by women!) and she deserves a standing ovation at the end of the meal.
You can try her marinated salmon, her soups, the anchovy’s pie, the pigeon or the steak with onion fondue and fried zucchini flowers. Desserts are all excellent.
I once tried a cappuccino mousse thinking that it was only good but at the end it was something really smart!
