Signoria sq. and Palazzo Vecchio
July 31, 2009
This is a partial view of the magnificent Palazzo Vecchio.
Located less than 20 min. walk from Mr My Resort B&B , it’s a few meters far from the main cathedral Duomo and the Ponte Vecchio (Old bridge).
It was built as the seat of city governement between 1299 and 1322; passing the copy of the David, you can enter in the courtyard which was designed by Michelangelo and frescoed also by Vasari.
At the second floor you can admire the vaste room of Salone de’ Cinquecento, completely covered by Vasari’s frescoes celebrating the military victories Cosimo de’ Medici and the city of Florence, together with the Genio della Vittoria by Michelangelo, and statues of Vncenzo de’ Rossi and Giambologna.
Dont’ miss the Sala dei Gigli, with walls covered by lilys (gold), symbol of Florence: here there is the orginal Giuditta e Oloferne by Donatello (1460), originally placed in Piazza della Signoria.
The room of Sala delle Carte Geografiche hosts an enormous earth globe and more than fifty panels showing the known world in the 50 cent.

Piazza della Signoria square
July 26, 2009
Here we are!

Piazza della Signoria is the most important square in the city center, and it’s located between the Duomo square and the Uffizi Gallery, a couple of steps from the Old bridge (Ponte Vecchio) on the river Arno.

Located at a walking distance from our B&B Mr My Resort and Relais Grand Tour (15-20 minutes by feet), the Signoria sq. is an open museum: here you can admire the facade and campanile of Palazzo Vecchio, the copy of the David, the Neptune Fountain (half of the 500 cent.) also called Il Biancone (the Big White) for the big white Neptune and its licentious nymphs.
The Hercules of Bandinelli is simply spectacular…

On the right you can admire the Loggia de’ Lanzi (lancers were the bodyguard of Cosimo I), with the famous Rape of the Sabine women by Giambologna, the marvellous Perseus of Benvenuto Cellini, and other important sculptures.
A couple of things about Palazzo Vecchio will coming soon…
Perseo statue, Signoria square

Here is a detail that I personally took from the Perseo by Cellini.
You can admire this beautiful guy in the Loggia de’ Lanzi, located in Piazza della Signoria, at the corner with the Uffizi Gallery, together with other enchanting statues from the Renaissance….
A new post about Piazza Signoria is coming on the 26th…
Romantic getaway in Florence… and proposal
July 18, 2009
Love Love Love…
We wish S. and L. happiness, joy, and love. We really have no words to say how happy we are for this young lovely couple.
S. organized this special trip not only for a birthday tread to his girlfriend L…. Here is the email that he sent us after their stay in Florence, at MR My Resort:
“Many thanks for a wonderful stay at Mr My Resort (5 to 8 July). The trip was a birthday treat to my girlfriend Lorraine and she loved your new accomodation – it truly was amazing. Thank you for your help and patience with all my queries before and after our arrival – as it was a special trip, I wanted to make sure everything ran smoothly.
During our stay, I asked Lorraine to marry me. She said “Yes” so we hope to be back in Florence for our honeymoon in a couple of years and look forward to staying with you again.
Many thanks once again.”
I think that it’s our guests to make our place so special… Now we will have to work on this special honeymoon
… Two years it’s a short time.
You can also read the review that S. left here on Tripadvisor.com . Thank you S. and L., for your sweet words about us.
We wish a good week-end to everybody! Love is in the air…

Restaurants in Florence: Osteria Pepò
July 8, 2009
Pepo‘s is one of our favourite places, a trattoria with excellent tuscan food and wine, at very reasonable prices.
The restaurant is located very very close to MR My Resort and Relais Grand Tour, less than a couple of minutes walk, close to the square of Piazza del Mercato Centrale and San Lorenzo church
The athmosphere is warm , the candle is on your table, the service is welcoming without to be too informal. Everything makes you stay at the table with pleasure, after a long day…
There is a lunch menu at lower prices, and there is the dinner menu, where a good express pasta is between 7,00 and 10,00 euros, and a main course is between 11,00 and 17,00 euros, while the dessert is 5,00 (chicolate cake, cantuccini id Prato and Vin Santo, or cream pudding…).
If you’re not used to drink a bottle of wine in 2, then you can ask for just a glass.
Try the coccoli, prosciutto and stracchino (small balls of fried bread, prosciutti and fresh cream cheese), the pappa al pomodoro, the ribollita (good in winter), the fresh noodles, the ossibuchi with tomato sauce, or the beef steak Florentine style.
Their mixed fried vegetables are superb!

July 8-12 Macbeth at Bargello museum
July 6, 2009
Play in original english version, the Macbeth has its location in the marvellous courtyard of the Bargello museum.
This show will feature spectacular duels and sword fights, choreographed by Ted Sharon (famous fight master from the States), and it is directed by Sahun Loftus, with original music by Alessio Riccio, a very famous jazz drummer.
A good way to spend your time in Florence, after a good dinner close to the Duomo square, a few steps from the B&B.

My barattolini cake
July 5, 2009
What does barattolini mean?
The barattolino is a small pot, in this case I consider our standar yoghurt pot which is 125 gr (4,40 oz). Here is the recipe:
- 1 barattolino 125 gr. pot of natural yoghurt
- 2 barattolino of sugar (250 gr.)
- 1 barattolino of olive oil (125 gr.)
- 3 barattolino of flour (375 gr.)
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 lemon juice + grated peel
- 1 baking powder
Mix eggs with sugar, then add the yoghurt, slowly pour the olive oil, then add the lemon juice with the grated peel, the flour and the baking powder.
Use a mould of 25 cm diameter (about 10 inches); grase the cake tin with butter and then flour it.
Put the mixture into the oven (preheated) at 160 european Celsius (325 Farheneit), for about 50 minutes.
A very simple cake, perfect for breakfast.
