From May 28the art of ice-crea making in Florence’s most beautiful squares of the city center. Very close to Mr My Resort accomodations, 2 steps from the Academy Gallery, the elegant Piazza SS. The Italian Gelato was born right here in Florence during the Renaissance as a “iced flavoured sugar water”, and exported with Caterina De’ Medici in France (do you know the Café Procope? It was the most important ice-cream parlour in the country around 1665). The first important Italian ice-cream maker was the florentine Ruggeri, a chef of roast-chickens with a passion for cakes, and a few years later Buontalenti, “the” florentine architect with a cooking passion made his “crema del Buontalenti” with honey, orange and lemon flavour, eggs, milk, a drop of sweet wine. This gelato is still available in most of the excellent florentine ice-cream parlour, even the recipe is different considering the use of sugar instead of honey, and other ingredients…

On the occasion of the IV centennial of Caravaggio’s death, there will be a total of more than 100 works coming from research, new attributions, most of them well-known, some unknown.

The Exhibition will have the same opening time of Pitti and Uffizi: 8.15 am – 18.50 pm, closed on Monday. The cost of the ticket will be euros 14,00 per person (euros 10,00 museum+exhibit. and euros 4,00 museum booking service).

May 10-15 there is the 54° International Iris Competition, so you can see  hybridisers and horticulturists from different nations work in the Garden and expose their flowers. Dont’ miss it! From the historic center Mr My Resort area you can take the bus n. 12 or 13 and go directly to the Piazzale; the Iris Garden is located on the east part of the terrace overlooking the city. If you are good walkers then you can go there by feet in about 1hr30″, crossing the Old Bridge Ponte Vecchio.

Here the hamburgers are made with the special “chianina” meat of an excellent quality, organic, genuine and fresh, directly from the “Farmhouse La Fratta” located  in the Chianti landscape.

This museum is easy to visit, and is full of extraodinary masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Prisoners (in the Prisoner’s Corridor), St Matthew, and the Pietà di Palestrina. There is the unmissable Annunciation by Lorenzo Monaco, and the Madonna del Lago by Botticelli, the Deposition by Bronzino, works by Filippo Lippi, and many others… On the upper floor there is a large selection of paintings 14th-16th century.

The David was originally placed in Piazza della Signoria, right on the steps of Palazzo Vecchio, representing the strenght and the dignity of the Florentine Republic; it was there for about 400 years, and then it was removed for proctection pourposes, and the Academy Gallery became his place.

As a Tea Room, here you can find the best Moroccan selections of typical tea from the large menu, together with typical biscuits and home-made cakes, some in Moroccan style, others more italian. Here it is possible to have a light lunch with a vegetarian cous-cous or a good panino, or come in the afternoon to read a newspaper and sip a home-made fruit-juice, or a tea with fresh ingredients and special aromas (try the Risveglio a Marrakech, or Notti d’Arabia, or just the simple tea with fresh mint). But as I told you, this is not only a Tea Room. The proprietor, Sofia, is a young sweet girl who creates jewels in Moroccan style in her laboratory located in a part of the “Derb”; you can see her working at rings or hear-rings while you’re sit at the table with your drink.

In addiction, she imports directly from Morocco some typical hand-crafts products: hand-made covers in colored silk, silk pillows, moroccan slippers in leather, and the famous “tagine”, that they use to prepare the cous cous but that one’s can use and a standard plateau to serve food on table.  Colored glasses decorated with silver, warm colored dishes hand-decorated.
